Entry #10: The Morphing Of Horror Movies

If you are a horror movie lover like me, you might have noticed how horror movies have morphed throughout the years. As years pass, the topics often morph with the time and evolve using new technologies. Time is the reason that practical effects that you may have seen in Friday The 13th, seem outdated compared to the new effects of today. While time can definitely make some movies cheesy and outdated, time can almost make a movie better. This is extremely true wand evident in horror flicks and distinguishes a classic.

Take Psycho for example. The movie was iconic for the time it was created in because of its use of camera shots and combination of recognizable music. With this description, you probably thought of the shower scene where the killer kills one of his female visitors. Age has made this movie even more amazing because it led to a cult following. The movie also changed the industry with showing how scary ordinary people can be.

The cult following that horror movies gain throughout the passing in time is truly amazing. When you think of a movie with a cult following, what do you think of? Personally, the three horror movies I think about the most are Friday The 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Saw. These are some of the most profitable horror movies of all time with easily recognizable characters that can easily be branded. Time has only led to more and more recognizable moments from these movies. In summary, the horror genre only gets better with age as movie norms continue to grow.

  1. Hi Sarah,
I am a huge fan of horror movies!! There have been changes made towards the filmmaking and with the use of technology being involved. Friday the 13th is iconic and overall my favorite movie. Personally, I feel as if Horror movies over timed changed, and now a lot of them are predictable and not scary. Whereas back then nobody knew anything and was surprised which I feel as made the movie amazing. Good job Sarah!

  2. I absolutely love horror movies! My favorite movie series would have to be the Saw series. Have you seen them? If not than I highly recommend them. Only if you like a lot of gore though.

Entry #5: Are You In Good Hands?

This week, I was tasked with analyzing an Allstate commercial. This sounded silly to me at first, but then I realized how much the ads use rhetoric and how they are a great example to start an analysis on. I had chosen the Tailgate Grill ad, which can be watched  here.       The author of this ad wanted the audience to experience the game day excitement and dread that would occur after it. Since the grill in the car leads to the car catching on fire, it shows the risks that can happen during a big game day. By stating the product, (insurance), at the end of the advertisement, the author obviously wants to promote safe and wise decisions. The target audience is adults who are looking for a safe and reliable insurance plan.      The context of this ad is a football game. This is to hopefully get the audience to relate to the ad, almost to say "what if that happened to me?" You can see how American culture greatly influ...

Entry #1: Blogs, Blogs, and more Blogs

Blogs! They can be about pretty much everything. From DIY projects for your living room to recipes for the table, blogs can be an incredible source of information. Not only that, but they can also showcase people's lives and day too day activities. With blogs, the possibilities are limitless. Anyone has the ability publish writings to the internet and discover an audience that can appreciate them. Now you may be asking yourself, "Sarah, what is your opinion on blogs?" I'm glad you asked! I believe blogs are great! But it takes a certain type of person to be able to create a cohesive and well thought out one.      For instance, a good example of this would be The Skinny Confidential. You can explore this masterpiece of a blog  here.  This blog is clear and is visually interesting for its audience. The blog is organized very clearly with easy to access links and directories. All of the visuals on the page relate back to the top...
