Entry #10: The Morphing Of Horror Movies

If you are a horror movie lover like me, you might have noticed how horror movies have morphed throughout the years. As years pass, the topics often morph with the time and evolve using new technologies. Time is the reason that practical effects that you may have seen in Friday The 13th, seem outdated compared to the new effects of today. While time can definitely make some movies cheesy and outdated, time can almost make a movie better. This is extremely true wand evident in horror flicks and distinguishes a classic.

Take Psycho for example. The movie was iconic for the time it was created in because of its use of camera shots and combination of recognizable music. With this description, you probably thought of the shower scene where the killer kills one of his female visitors. Age has made this movie even more amazing because it led to a cult following. The movie also changed the industry with showing how scary ordinary people can be.

The cult following that horror movies gain throughout the passing in time is truly amazing. When you think of a movie with a cult following, what do you think of? Personally, the three horror movies I think about the most are Friday The 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Saw. These are some of the most profitable horror movies of all time with easily recognizable characters that can easily be branded. Time has only led to more and more recognizable moments from these movies. In summary, the horror genre only gets better with age as movie norms continue to grow.

  1. Hi Sarah,
I am a huge fan of horror movies!! There have been changes made towards the filmmaking and with the use of technology being involved. Friday the 13th is iconic and overall my favorite movie. Personally, I feel as if Horror movies over timed changed, and now a lot of them are predictable and not scary. Whereas back then nobody knew anything and was surprised which I feel as made the movie amazing. Good job Sarah!

  2. I absolutely love horror movies! My favorite movie series would have to be the Saw series. Have you seen them? If not than I highly recommend them. Only if you like a lot of gore though.

Entry #6: The Normalization of Mental Health

Mental Health. While commonly talked about, the concept is still very foreign, especially to older generations. Everyone has had some sort of run in with their mental health. Maybe last week you had a bad day but you can't stop thinking about it. Or you continuously made yourself anxious for no reason at all. Obviously, some mental health is more severe than others. When gone unchecked, it can create many more issues further down the line. That is why mental health needs to be talked about more and should be the forefront of the occasional deep conversation.     Personally I have had my fair share of mental health hiccups. Being diagnosed with OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) at ten years old was definitely not my plan. And it especially was not my parent's plan either. What many might talk about is the effect of mental health, not only on you as a person, but on the others around you. This can be scary. It might make the people around you feel...

Entry #9: What Does Food Convey?

When viewing this image, what thoughts pop up in your mind? You might sense a feeling of warmth and safety. There is joy in the air, surrounded in smiles and celebration. What is in the center of this image? You guessed it, it's food and drinks. As people, I don't think we take into consideration how much food effects our social life. Think of a party you might have went to. There might have been drinks as well as small appetizer like foods. Parties are typically associated and synonymous with fun  gatherings. Think about holidays. On Christmas, many people eat what is typically traditional for their families. Christmas is a time of giving, as well as Thanksgiving. What I am trying to emphasize and showcase is that food really is the heart of gatherings. This is why when we think of "comfort foods" we are often craving a connection. Personally, when I notice I am craving a "comfort" food, (such as pasta and italian food), I am missing family and the emot...
